Greetings Travellers,

It’s been quite some time since my last post, so I’d first like to apologize for our comms being down; we’ve been hard at work trying to engineer a playable alpha which will hopefully be released in the near future.

As the rest of the team works on their respective projects, I’m trying to create an immersive terrain in Unity. With no previous knowledge of the program and more recently running into scaling then rendering issues (but with the help of numerous tutorials), I feel I’m closer to having a workable terrain than I’ve been in the past few months. Between Blender, Unity, and GIMP, the learning curve has been steep.

The team’s weekdays are spent at jobs that have nothing to do with creating an MMORPG. We spend our free time attempting to create the necessary mechanics to convey our idea, so the process continues to be (forever will be) a passion project. We aren’t experts, but once the alpha is released and we receive your much appreciated (and crucial) input and feedback, we can work toward the launch of our KickStarter. Once funded, La Grange Game Studios will transition to hiring passionate professionals capable of creating the most immersive MMORPG to date. Right now, though, we’re just five guys working towards a vision.

Since Traveller was before the time of gaming consoles I’ve never had the pleasure of playing. However, the wildly original and unique concept instantly hooked me. That concept, which will some day be combined with cutting-edge graphics and gameplay, has me excited for the future; I envision Traveller MMORPG as all the games I’ve ever wanted or needed to play.

The possibilities of this game are endless and the scope of the project massive, but with your continued support, we will succeed.

As always, feel free to contact us through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. If you haven’t already and want to stay up to date on any new information, be sure to Like and Follow our Facebook page.

Until next time, Travellers.

Good evening Travellers,

We wanted to give you an update about what has transpired since our last blog. We are now able to connect to a host for networking purposes, and are continuing to work on a communication system that can be used in game.

Our founder, Paul, has been working on a warbot that is going to be vital as part of our demo. He has hashed out the commands and is now working on shooting functions. The particle physics is not something any member of the team has dealt with before, and is continuing to be a battle. The hope is to have a functional warbot that has AI associated with it to be an enemy for the player. We will have pictures up of this warbot in the upcoming weeks.

Mike, our Creative Director, has been working hard on terrains. He has come a long way in the last few weeks, and hopes to be able to have a rather large terrain functional without losing detail or having an issue with frame rates. He is also incorporating some designs that Paul has added from AutoCAD. He will also be working with mapping and making the scene all come together.

Dan has been working with our playable character. He has the basics down and is now working on more advanced functions. He has also been working with Paul to get the Development and Finance pages available on the website to provide our fans with more information on the project. The goal is to have our website become all-encompassing and show all of the items that we post around social media. This will also allow new fans to the project to get themselves acquainted with our goals and plans for the future.

Mark, our webmaster, has continued to be a huge resource in allowing this game to be multi-player. His networking is making strides each day and we will have more to announce on his progress in the near future.

Overall, LGS feels like we are closer to our goal of creating a playable demo and allowing our fans and players to comment and make suggestions on the game. We are far from finished with our long-term goals, but by taking this one step at a time we are building on our original foundation that was laid around 14 months ago.

Look for more pages to be added to our website within the next week, which will help to explain our goals in more detail. To say we are excited about the whole project is an understatement, and we look forward to taking our next steps with you, the fans!

Don’t forget to check out our Facebook and Soundcloud pages, as we will be continuing to add more content and updates.

Thank you for all of your support so far and moving forward!

Dan

Good evening Travellers,

We would like to welcome you to the new area for our blog here on lagrangegamestudios.com. This website is nowhere near complete, but is now hosted on our own private and secure server. We have been spending a lot of time in the last few months working on security features and database management that can handle a large game such as Traveller MMORPG. Let me give you a rundown of what each of the team has been working on, and what we hope to accomplish in the near future.

Our founder, Paul, has been working in Unity with many physics properties and controls for some items that will be available for play test. Paul had not been working with Unity at the beginning of the project and instead was focusing on the ships that you have seen on our Facebook page, which were done in AutoCAD. Now that our game story is starting to come together, he is focusing on details and objects that will enhance the game experience and bring a feel for Traveller to the game.

Our Creative Director, Mike, has been busy working on terrain. The terrain we are planning to introduce is much larger than a typical game terrain that is produced in Unity, thus he has run into some obstacles. He has continued to work through those problems and is focused on creating a terrain that matches that the tech level of the planet, the back story, etc. He has also been consulting with the rest of the team on the overall storyline and how our game begins.

Our Webmaster, Mark, has been busy in many areas. After working to get our site secure, he has been working primarily on multi-player networking and voice chat. LGS had a test last week of the networking, and it went very well. We are on our way to having a communications interface which will be a great feature in the game.

Dan, the Operations Manager, has also been working in Unity. He has been working with a third person shooter asset which essentially act as a placeholder in the game as the other parts come together. This also has not been an easy road but progress is being made. Dan has also been working with the team as a whole to keep everything organized and moving in the right direction.

Finally, we have contacted a Graphic Designer who we are interested in having on our team. This person would be responsible for the logo design and website layout, as well as many features that we are looking to add when working in Unity.

As you can tell, it has been a busy time. Our last post on Facebook was all the way back in October, but please be assured that our team has continued to work hard on this very large project. Friendly competition and teamwork have kept everyone on track and continuing towards the same goal.

As for that goal, short-term, LGS is looking to create an alpha with one scene and story that is contained on one terrain. This will be largely unpolished, but many of the long-term goals of the game will start to be worked on. This alpha is something that we have been working towards for the last few months, and the story and design have really begun to take shape. We will also be announcing ways for the players to become involved with us from the very beginning. Having hardcore fans from Classic Traveller be a part of this team is essential. We already cannot thank all of our followers enough for taking the time out to like our page and posts. We have added quite a few people since our last post, which means we are gaining traction on social media.

Please be on the lookout for our next blog, which should be sometime next week. As we have weekly meetings we will try give an update for the fans and players so they can follow our journey to create the most immersive MMORPG out there.
